The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood has hinted that the band are “on the verge” of touring this year. Rumours have long circulated that the legendary rock’n'roll band will play shows this year to mark their 50th anniversary, with drummer Charlie Watts the most recent member of the group to talk up the possibility of a half-centenary celebration. Now, in an interview with the Radio Times, Wood has also said he wants the band to play together and, when asked if he and his bandmates would be hitting the road, he replied: “Be lovely, wouldn’t it? That’s what we’re on the verge of. I dunno what the hell is gonna happen yet but we all feel we owe it to ourselves and to the people to do something.” He went on to add: “Basically, get the boys feeling comfortable with each other, ’cause we’re all ready to go individually. It’s just a matter of tying up loose ends and coming together as a unit.” It was reported last November that singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards would meet to discuss how they should celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary. They are said to have fallen out when Richards mocked the size [...]

Simian Mobile Disco are set to release their brand new album, ‘Unpatterns’, on 14th May. The album will be preceded by the single ‘Seraphim’ on 9th April, and follows their 2009 LP ‘Temporary Pleasure’ and their debut album, 2007′s ‘Attack Decay Sustain Release’. Simian Mobile Disco will follow this album’s release with a number of live shows in the UK, details of which will be released in due course. The duo – made up of James Ford and Jas Shaw – last released the techno compilation album, ‘Delicacies’, in 2010. The album featured songs previously released on 12-inch vinyl. All the singles were inspired by unusual foods the DJ pair sampled while globetrotting. The ‘Unpatterns’ tracklisting is: ‘I Waited For You’ ‘Cerulean’ ‘Seraphim’ ‘A Species Out of Control’ ‘Interference’ ‘Put Your Hands Together’ ‘The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife’ ‘Your Love Ain’t Fair’ ‘Pareidolia’ ‘Everyday’ (bonus iTunes exclusive)

Alan McGee is selling off never-before-heard tracks by The Libertines at an auction in Manchester this Saturday. The demo tapes will go under the hammer at the Omega Auction house in Stockport this weekend, along with letters given to him by former Prime Minister Tony Blair and Hole singer Courtney Love. According to the Manchester Evening News, he will also auction off around 100 other items, including records, photos and fanzines signed by bands who used to work with his record labels Creation and Poptones. Talking about his decision to sell the pieces of memorabilia, he said: “I’m just clearing out all this rock and roll rubbish from my house. I’ve no real interest in the past and have sort of moved on from the music scene – I’m more interested in books and films now.” He added: “If anyone asks if I’m selling all this stuff because I’m skint, it’s not true: I live in a very big house in the country.” Meanwhile, auctioneer Paul Fairweather said they were expecting widespread interest in the items. “We’ve already had a lot of interest from fans of Creation Records bands like My Bloody Valentine and Primal Scream,” he said. “We’re expecting [...]

He said: “We’ve got so many plans for this year. We’re putting on our festival Split for the fourth time. We’re doing a massive food event in Sunderland in June, which we’ll be performing at. It’s all to do with the Olympics. Our world is evolving in quite an unusual way.
1990s pop group East 17 have said that their new album ‘Dark Light’ has been inspired by U2 and Kings Of Leon. The band, who are most famous for their 1994 single ‘Stay Another Day’, will put out the album on 2nd April and have said it is “subconsciously inspired by American music and rock ‘n’ roll”. The album does not feature the group’s eccentric former frontman Brian Harvey. The album’s accompanying press release says of ‘Dark Light’: “It showcases the band’s new transatlantic rock sound, reminiscent of bands like Kings Of Leon and U2 and even artists like Brian Adams and Billy Joel It’s a brave move and one that’s paid off on a record that’s as catchy as ‘Summer Of 69′ and as soft rock and big sounding as it gets.” The band’s songwriter Tony Mortimer, who has also produced the album, said of the record: “I think everyone is subconsciously inspired by American music and rock ‘n’ roll and this time around we wanted to do something more live with less tricks.” The album is the group’s first since 1998′s ‘Resurrection’ and will be released on FOD Records.
Public Image Ltd. have announced details about their forthcoming new EP and studio album. John Lydon and co will release the four-track offering ‘One Drop’ on 21st April to coincide with this year’s Record Store Day, with the LP ‘This Is PiL’ set to drop on 28th May. Both releases are being put out by the band’s own label ‘Pil Official’. Speaking about the track ‘One Drop’, Lydon said: “One Drop’ is a reflection of where I grew up in Finsbury Park, London. The area that shaped me, and influenced my culturally and musically, a place I will forever feel connected to. But within this I am also saying it doesn’t matter where you come from, we all go through the same emotions especially the disenchanted youth of today, yesterday and the future. Bearing in mind the Olympics are in London this year and who knows what that could bring for London and our country…” In an interview with NME, meanwhile, Lydon likened the new LP as a whole to “folk music”, adding: “It comes from the heart and the soul. Whether that be electric, acoustic, digital or analogue, that’s still heart and soul. It’s not pop fodder and finely [...]

Rihanna’s new remix of ‘Birthday Cake’, which features her former boyfriend Chris Brown, has emerged online. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click to listen to the track. The pair hinted that they had worked together on a new collaboration yesterday (20th February) after Brown wished the singer a happy birthday on Twitter. In the track, Brown’s contribution is not a subtle one, introducing himself by saying “Girl, I wanna fuck you right now”. He then goes on to add several other NSFW verses. Last week, Brown denied using a chat-up line that referenced his assault of Rihanna. It was reported the singer, who attacked Rihanna on the evening of the 2009 Grammy Awards and was subsequently sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community labour, had approached a woman and said: “Can I get your number? I promise I won’t beat you.” However, Brown released a statement which read: “That is absurd and absolutely not true. I did not say that nor would I joke about that.” Earlier this month, a US court rejected his plea to end his probation term. Brown has completed an anger management programme as part of his rehabilitation [...]
